Drunk Suspended License Driver Leads Cops on Chase
Police say the car was reported stolen two weeks go out of Kennewick, the owner had left the keys inside.
Early Wednesday morning, police now say a suspect was chased and finally caught after leading police on a wild chase through Pasco. Around 1am an officer saw this red Toyota run the red light at 10th and Lewis streets, but when he attempted to pull the driver over, they sped away down Clark westbound, hitting 70 mph.
But the driver, who later was found to be inebriated, hit the curb near 18th, popping the left front tire. They dumped the car in the Loyalty Inn parking lot and fled on foot. As a second officer joined the pursuit from the other direction, the suspect doubled back and tried to hide underneath a nearby moving van. He was ordered to come out and when the officer displayed his Taser and pointed it at him the man gave up peacefully.
23-year-old Guadalupe Martinez Cervantes is now in the Franklin County jail facing this laundry list of charges:
Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Attempting to Elude, and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance/ Methamphetamine. In addition, he may face misdemeanor charges of DWLSR 1st Degree, Interlock Required, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
The stolen car has been impounded for a search warrant, police believe there could possibly be more evidence inside.
