Dry Hot Weather Triggers Another Big Brush Fire
Richland police assisted the Richland Fire Department Thursday afternoon, on a natural cover (brush) fire off of Highway 240.
The fire, which originated near Milepost 26, appears to have consumed a pretty good chunk of brush, although the total acreage burned was not released by authorities. Traffic was slowed for a time while crews battled the flames back from the highway.
Officials remind citizens and drivers that despite some cooler days mixed in, we're still in a VERY dry state, and especially with those southwest and west winds, it doesn't take much to trigger a fast-moving fire.
Police and fire crews did not say what triggered this fire.
