Fatal Car Crash Victim Had Survived Being Shot in June
Authorities say the woman who died in Monday morning's crash on Highway 125 near College Place had survived being shot in June.
23-year-old Sydney English-Hawkins had been hit three times by bullets fired by 28-year-old Mikhale Tekele in an apartment on Chestnut Street June 24th. She was one of two people hurt, Tekele was arrested and is in jail. Hawkins was treated and released from the hospital later the same day.
But she died Monday when a car driven by 38-year-old Flor Perez of Walla Walla ran through a stop sign at highway speed at the intersection of Highway 125 and Old Milton Highway, and slammed into her car. She was not wearing a seat belt, and pronounced dead at the scene. A one-year-old child and a 3-month-old baby were in her car, they were injured and taken to St. Mary's Medical Center in Walla Walla.
Charges are pending against Perez as the investigation continues.
