A 19-year-old woman from Lake Oswego has escaped from custody.

Julia Haner, a former cheerleader, is facing a federal indictment on charges of allegedly trafficking a 17-year-old girl for the purposes of prostitution. She was awaiting the outcome of the federal case and could be facing up to 10 years in prison.

She was wearing a monitoring device on her ankle, but over the last week was somehow able to remove it and now is believed to be on the run.

According to KGW Television:

"When the investigation first surfaced, Portland police said they contacted the 17-year-old victim after seeing her featured in an Internet prostitution ad. They said Haner and a man had already taken the girl to a Vancouver motel to solicit sex for money.  Officers set up a sting and took the victim into custody, then she was returned to her family."

Haner reportedly was part of a competitive cheer team in the Portland area, then briefly was part of the Lake Oswego High School team.

The case is considered bizarre because Haner is not the type of suspect usually associated with such human trafficking rings.
