Gardner Minshew Sets NFL Record in Debut
Gardner Minshew battled his way into the backup job as a rookie in Jacksonville. He probably wasn't expecting to play in week one. But Nick Foles broke his left clavicle against the Chiefs today. It's going to take a long time to heal, with the QB saying it's worse than his clavicle break in 2014. This plants Gardner Minshew firmly in the starting QB spot. Nobody has expectations for rookie backup QBs thrown onto the field in the wake of injuries. But Gardner Minshew had a hell of a game. The WSU sixth-round pick set an NFL record with 13 straight completions to start his career. On the day, Minshew was 22-25 (88%) for 275 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception that wasn't really his fault.
Just think, this is a kid that was intent on being a third-string backup at Alabama before Mike Leach lured him into Pullman last year. Gardner Minshew, have a day!
