Inslee will join members of various groups in Olympia Friday, and will be raising the Pride Flag at the State Capitol.

This is the third year this has been done, in honor of what Inslee says is Gay Pride Month in Washington state.

His office issued the following statement Thursday:

"Pride Month is a time of celebration and an opportunity to honor our family, friends and colleagues," Inslee said. "Washington is a place where no one can be discriminated against because of who they love. We have come a long way in recognizing and protecting the rights of LGBTQ Washingtonians, and remain committed to our efforts to make all corners of this state inclusive and safe."

Inslee's actions have drawn criticism from family and conservative groups, saying he is slapping traditional and theological values in the face.
