Did you know that nurses are often attacked by patients? Weird, huh. But real. As part of the preparation for contract negotiations, their union is focusing on workplace safety such as violence against nurses. They are requesting higher staffing levels and different scheduling practices -- making an argument that when there is more staff on each shift, or available to work a shift, nurses are healthier, more alert, and less likely to be attacked by patients or have other safety accidents.
