High Risk Traffic Stop Leads to Shooting on I-182 UPDATE
Pasco Police have not revealed what led to the shooting of a wanted suspect Thursday afternoon during a traffic stop.
Police officials say around 3PM on the eastbound off ramp of I-182 near Road 68, officers stopped a vehicle driven by a man in this 30's from Kennewick. He was wanted on an outstanding warrant. Police did not specify if they recognized the vehicle or the driver.
Sources did say due to the high risk nature of the stop, officers did not approach the vehicle, but instead ordered the driver to exit and comply with commands. Sometime during the stop an incident occurred that resulted in the man being being shot by a Pasco detective.
His condition is not known. No other information has been released.
UPDATE--
Police now say the suspect is Santiago Ayala-Pineda. 33. He allegedly grabbed a gun and refused to drop it before a Pasco Detective shot him during stop.
