Richland’s Popular Bateman Island Remains Closed TFN Due to Fire
Bateman Island in Richland remains closed after a fire on Wednesday.

The fire was reported at about 12:30 pm. Flames were seen at a hiking area near Columbia Park Trail and smoke was visible from SR 240. The fire burned 5-7 acres on the southwestern side of the island. Crews from Kennewick, Richland, and Benton County responded to the fire. No injuries were reported. The cause remains under investigation.
Bateman Island is classified as an urban wildlife viewing area.
The island is about 2 miles long and about 1 mile wide. A 2.5 mile loop-trail circles the island which is a popular destination for hikers and wildlife enthusiasts. According to Alltrails.com, the trail is considered an easy route, taking about 45-minutes to complete.
