Although Rep. Larry Haler will finish out the rest of his term, which ends December 31st, his position will be open due to his 'retirement' from the Washington State Legislature.

Shortly after his announcement Tuesday that he will not seek re-election, Kennewick City Councilman Matt Boehnke announced he will file to run for the position this year.

According to information provided to us, he will make a formal announcement March 5th at the Veterans Memorial in Columbia Park at 11am.

Boehnke is a long time active Tri-Citian, serving on a number of committees especially in the area of economic development. He's been on the council going on three years, and got there by challenging long-time incumbent Bob Olson.
