Local Group Seeks to Overturn K-6 Sex Ed with Referendum 90
A local group is seeking signatures as part of a statewide effort to get a referendum on the ballot that would overturn the new K-6 sexual education program.
Referendum 90 has been filed with the Secretary of State's office. It seeks to nullify Senate Bill (SB) 5395. This, and it's House companion bill, introduced and passed a new sexual education program for children K-6 in WA public schools.
A number of groups, including the Family Policy Institute of WA and others are seeking signatures to get it on the ballot.
Here in the Tri-Cities, a Facebook group call Rise Up Tri-Cities is conducting signature drives throughout the area. So far, the signature campaign is in it's early stages, just over 20,000 have been obtained statewide as of May 4. This was the first count after effort began.
Locally, four locations are being manned from 8AM through 8PM where citizens can stop by, drive up, and sign. They are John Dam Plaza Richland, Flat Top Park West Richland, Highland Grange on South Union Kennewick (by the library) and Lowes at Road 68 Pasco. They are practicing social distancing.
