While the number of Americans receiving food assistance and other government help has now reached record levels, Obama was busy partying at a political fundraiser.

Pop music's biggest 'power couple' held a fundraiser for the president at Jay-Z's 40/40 Club Wednesday night, and Obama gushed on and on over the couple. Obama tried to compare them -- and himself -- to immigrants who came here and built businesses or became successful.

At one point, the president said, as reported by Politicker.com:

“And the good thing about so many of us here – and I know I speak for Jay and Bey – is we remember what it’s like not having anything, and we know people who were just as talented as us that didn’t get the same break, the same chance. We remember some of our parents or grandparents who came here as immigrants and got a little bit of help along the way to go to that school or be able to start that first business."

Meanwhile, the Republican National Committee released a David Letterman-style Top Ten list, inspired by Obama's  8th appearance on the show.  The list included :

  • get an intelligence briefing
  • tell 47 million Americans how he's going to get them off food stamps
  • meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
