Okanogan Complex Fire Now Largest in State History!
Local fire officials in Benton County say we're having a '100-year' fire season in Washington state.
With a growth of 26 more square miles Sunday, the Okanogan Complex fire burning or has burned just over 400 square miles, making it larger than last season's Carlton Complex blaze.
The fire could, say some officials, burn possibly for several more months. While they may get the main part under containment and extinguished, there could be related pockets that continue to flare up or burn unless we get some significant rain or cooler weather.
The Washington National Guard has posted some remarkable videos of fire suppression efforts on their Twitter page, including choppers dropping fire retardant and water on blazes in the area.
The Complex fire has already burned several hundred structures. It's made up of several blazes that are close to or already have joined together, including the 9 Mile, Beaver Lake, Twisp River, Lime Belt and Tunk Rock blazes. The overall Complex is said to be about 10% contained.
