Oregon Governor Brown Wants to Hike Cigarette Tax by 67 Cents
Are you willing to pay an extra $6.70 per carton of smokes? Will the tax hike make you quit? Oregon Governor Kate Brown wants to increase the tax on cigs to pay for health insurance for low-income folks and lower health costs for all.
They say the tax will also reduce under-age smoking, whereas I think a kid will just take an extra dollar out of your wallet or purse to buy a pack of smokes.
The tobacco tax increase will have to go to voters, of course. Those same voters turned down the last tobacco tax that was on the ballot. How would you vote?
