Pair in Jail After Arrested for Drive-By Shooting Near Kennewick
The Washington State Patrol says two people are in custody following their arrest in connection with a drive-by shooting.
Shots fired at vehicles last Thursday near SR 397 and 10th Ave.
22-year-old Kayla B. Shuttleworth of Umatilla and 27-year-old Sergio A. Villanueva (hometown not listed) are in the Benton County jail.
Last Thursday, around 1:15 PM, a Black Chevy Cruze registered to Shuttleworth was headed north on Chemical Drive, which is also SR 397. As they approached 10th Ave. they came upon another vehicle. Occupants of both cars yelled at each other, then someone in the Cruze displayed a gun.
The driver of the original vehicle slowed down, then one of the people in the Cruze pointed the gun at another vehicle near 10th and fired a shot. Fortunately, that second driver slammed on the brakes enough that the shooter missed.
WSP officials did not say what connection the three vehicles have, and it is not known if Shuttleworth was actually driving. The incident continues to be investigated.
The WSP is handling lead on the investigation because it occurred on a state highway, SR 397.
