No one knows why Jesse B. Nickens was walking in the middle of Highway 397 when he was struck by two cars.

The 21-year-old Yakima man was wearing dark clothes at nearly 10 p.m. at night and walking in the middle of the northbound lane near the intersection with East Bryson Brown Road, south of the Kennewick city limits, according to the Washington State Patrol.

He was struck by two cars on Nov. 11, a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am and a 1997 Buick LeSabre.

He died on Dec. 11 at Northern Idaho Advanced Care and his death was recently announced.

No charges are expected for the drivers, Raquel Dufree, a 25-year-old Medford, Ore. woman, or a 17-year-old Kennewick boy.
