The governor is polling lower than Chris Gregoire did.

KXLY-TV in Spokane reports this week a recent poll was conducted to determine what state residents think of the Gov. Jay Inslee's performance so far.

The results? It's probably good this is not an election year.

Independent pollster Stuart Elway conducted the survey late last week and Inslee was rated as follows:

  • Inslee doing a good or excellent job - 40%
  • Inslee rated as fair or poor - 49%
  • 11% undecided.

Participants were also asked to rate his leadership during the two testy, marathon, overtime legislative budget sessions. 53% gave Inslee a negative rating while only 35% gave him positive marks. The rest were undecided or did not know.

The margin of error for the poll, made up of 406 registered voters, was plus-or-minus 5%. In 2005, when Gregoire was surveyed, she had a 43% approval rating.
