Semi Runs Red Light and Cue Balls a Ford in Richland
A Ford Focus acted like a cue ball in an intersection when a semi-truck knocked it into a car, which hit another car on Wednesday morning.
Apolinar P. Lopez-Varela ran a red light in a white 1993 Peterbilt semi-truck at the intersection of state Route 240 and Duportail Street, according to the Washington State Patrol. The 62-year-old Walla Walla man was not hurt when his truck struck a gray 2017 Ford Focus.
The Focus was knocked into a gray 2010 Volkswagen Jetta, which was pushed into a silver 2015 Lexus Gl.
Jordan P. Collago, a 23-year-old Richland woman, was driving the Focus and taken to Kadlec Medical Center for her injuries.
The driver of the Volkswagen was 41-year-old Christina Hufstader of Richland. She was also taken to the hospital for injuries, according to WSP.
Lopez-Varela was issued a citation for negligent driving in the second degree and accused by the WSP of causing the collisions because he failed to obey a traffic signal.
