Telling Seattle media she would "rather be in the middle of the debate" Murray formally announced she will seek a 5th term as one of Washington state's two Senators to Congress, although the election's not for another two years.

Murray, who first ran in 1992, is considered the 15th-ranked Senator as for seniority.   According to KIRO-TV she told the Seattle Times:

"I'd really rather be in the middle of the debate fighting for the people of Washington state rather than yelling at my television,"

If she fills another term she will equal the 30 years compiled by Senator Henry M "Scoop" Jackson, who died in 1983 while in office.  Only Warren Magnuson will have served longer, from 1944 until he lost his final Senate bid in 1980.   According to KIRO-TV:

'Murray ranks fourth in leadership among Senate Democrats, serving as conference secretary and budget committee chairwoman."
