Sheriffs, Tribal Police, Find Skeleton in Remote Area Near Pendleton
An investigation is underway after Umatilla County Sheriff's Rescue crews and Umatilla Tribal Police recovered skeletal remains in a remote area southeast of Pendleton.
Monday morning around 8am crews ventured into a ravine area to recover what are said to be adult sized skeletal remains, they were found in the Poverty Flatts area, about 18 miles southeast of town. The area of discovery was rather rugged as well as remote.
The Tribal Police will be conducting the investigation, no other information has been released. Officials did not say how long the remains were believed to have been there, or who discovered them and alerted authorities.
