A head on crash near Hood River, OR that sent several people to hospitals in serious condition is now a DUI investigation.

Saturday morning, shortly after 7am,  a Nissan pickup driven by 26-year-old Servando Zanora Avendano of Hood River was Northbound on Highway 35 just South of Hood River, when it collided head on with a Honda driven by 21-year-old Francisco Castro Gusman of Parkdale.  Hood River is just West of The Dalles, OR.

The Honda was left sitting in the middle of the highway, while the truck ended up on it's side on the shoulder, as seen in these shocking photos.

Miraculously, Gusman in the Honda survived, but was taken to Oregon Science and Health University in Portland.   Avendano was also seriously injured and had to be airlifted to the same facility.

Oregon State Patrols are investigating, and now say alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the crash, on the part of Avendano.

These pictures serve as a telling example of what can happen when a potentially intoxicated motorist gets behind the wheel.
