Citizens of New York are not taking Mayor Bloomberg's soda ban lightly -- nor are artists!Effective today, the soda ban in all five buroughs means you cannot buy a soda larger than 16 ounces in ANY form inside the NYC limits!

In retaliation, Mountain Dew (Pepsi) and the New York Art Department have posted thousands of works of "art" all over the city. They compare the soda ban to the ill-fated prohibition of the 1920s (which some experts say hastened the growth of the Mafia and organized crime in the U.S.). If you compare these posters side by side they are eerily similar! Citizens are furious the government is telling them how to live their lives, that they are too fat, and Big Brother has to watch over them.

60% of New Yorkers oppose the ban, which is viewed by critics as being a vast over-reach by Mayor Bloomberg. Yes, obesity rates in the U.S. may be alarmingly high, but we Americans have the right to live our lives as we choose -- even if it means making less-than healthy choices. Kudos to Mountain Dew and the New York  Art Board for standing up for personal freedom.
