It's a practice that over the last 2-3 years has unfortunately become commonplace in our area. A vehicle is stolen, 'used' for a short period of time, then later found to have been set on fire.

Authorities believe it's an effort to destroy evidence, some times it works, sometimes not. Franklin County Sheriff's are investigating this theft and fire. The SUV was reported stolen from 9090 Sagehill Road near Othello late Saturday night.

Then it was found about 5 miles southeast, near Hendricks and Falcon roads, about five miles northeast of Basin City.  The vehicle had been set on fire, and due to the very rural location, likely had time to completely burn itself to the bare metal and eventually go out. The investigation continues.
