We all snicker about strange or quirky events that pop up only every four years during the Summer Olympics. Synchronized swimming, air rifle, and more. But this one takes the cake.

As if it's not embarrassing enough having your ENTIRE track and field team get the Olympic door shut in it's face, now it's the wheelchair and artificial limb athletes as well. (Athletes depicted at NOT members of Russian team).

While many former Western Hockey League players and goaltenders have won Olympic medals for their countries,  no other WHL team say they have now have gold medal winners in mens and women's hockey!  And, the two gold winning goalies actually played in the SAME GAME for the Tri-City Americans.

Team USA will face off against Team Canada in a men's hockey semifinal on Friday.

A lot of casual hockey fans are probably unaware that the United States hockey team has gone without a gold medal since 1980's "Miracle on Ice." That's 18 years before the incorporation of NHL players.
