Washington state officials announced Wednesday a lawsuit has been settled that will result in new and increased methods of detecting, capturing and neutralizing vapors from tanks at Hanford. This week Department of Energy officials and others at Hanford announced some new plans for how they will deal with reported leaks in waste tanks, PUREX tunnels, and the waste as well.

Oregon Senator Ron Wyden, (D) toured the Hanford Tank Farm area, trying to get answers and information about recent news of leaks from tank AY-102 and possible leakage from tank AY-101. They're two of the oldest double-shell tanks holding toxic waste at the site.

No word on when pumping and work on two Hanford area tanks, and other parts of the waste tank farm will continue, after 11 workers were checked after reporting smelling fumes.

Regular routine checks and inspections of the waste tanks at Hanford have scientists wondering about a possible 2nd tank that might be leaking. It's tank AY-101, the second-oldest of the double-shell tanks, and dates back to about 1969.

After several Hanford workers complained of various physical ailments, two more were evaluated Wednesday.
