With Hanford racing to try to meet legally mandated deadlines for cleanup and vitrification of the millions of gallons of waste at the site,  could burping and the study of bubbles help solve problems?

We've been taking a look at what has almost become an iconic part of the Mid-Columbia: the VIT, or vitrification plant, at Hanford.

For some time, tank AY-102 at Hanford has been paid a lot of attention. Now it's going to get even more.

There is a proposal to ship three million gallons of waste to Carlsbad, New Mexico. This would reportedly give officials more flexibility to deal with six leaking tanks at Hanford. Some waste has already been sent there.

Gov. Jay Inslee plans to tour the Hanford site to gather information about the six leaky tanks and others that could pose a significant problem down the road.

Gov. Jay Inslee raised eyebrows across the state and even the nation with his announcement this week that the six leaky storage tanks at Hanford could be oozing up to 1,000 gallons a year.

Many of them have already gone under, and more do every week.

According to federal records, stimulus money was used to run ads touting "green" job opportunities with Job Corps on several shows aired on MSNBC.
