VIdeo released of stabbing-shooting incident
The Pasco Police Department by way of the Special Investigations Unit, has released a video of some footage of the fatal stabbing at 6th and Lewis that also resulted in fatal shooting of the stabbing suspect.
Chief Ken Roskie explains briefly what happened as well as how the Special Investigations Unit looks into these kinds of incidents.
Paso Public Information Sgt. Rigo Puneda also details what happened that day, around 11:40 AM a 9-1-1 call came in about two men fighting in the street at 6th and Lewis. The suspect, Gabriel Artz, was a convicted felon, who was shot after advancing towards officers and refusing to drop his knife.
This video contains some graphic language and footage, showing the stabbed victim, identified as 42-year-old Miguel Cortez-Palafox lying in the street. It also shows suspect Artz racing towards officers with the knife displayed, then being shot by two officers.

We have learned that Officer Jones approached the suspect and opened his door, but then as Artz approached him, he closed the door. Artz then struck the window of his cruiser with his knife. Jones moved his car, then stepped out again.
Despite commands to drop the knife, Artz continued to approach quickly before he was shot and hit. Here is the video, in its entirety. We believe viewing the entire video will help the public understand the complexity of the tragic situation.
