Yakima County Deputies and Wapato Police said this week a woman fleeing them on a Department of Corrections warrant hit 117 MPH during their chase. And, they had to use a Taser to finally subdue her after she crashed.

Last Sunday, Deputies were called to a late night crash between a red Mustang and a black Toyota Camry near the intersection of East Progressive Road and Highway 97 not far from Wapato.

The 11PM crash was blocking the roadway. But as Deputies and EMS workers were arriving, and preparing to check on the drivers and any passengers, the woman driving the Camry got back in her car and drove away. She then led Deputies on a wild chase northbound on Highway 97. Before finally crashing through a stop sign and into a field after a number of twists and turns, the woman hit 117 MPH in a 50 MPH zone.

After fleeing her vehicle she refused commands to get on the ground, and a Deputy had to use a Taser on her. Even then she tried to get up and had to be forcibly held down while she was cuffed.

The woman, identified as 33-year-old Sara Occampo, told officers the reason she fled was because she had an outstanding warrant from the Department of Corrections. She now facing at least three more felonies for her 'excursion.' No one else was hurt during the incident.
