The call for a new shelter for the Tri-Cities goes as far back as 2011. The current Tri-Cities animal shelter dates back several decades and it's been a vision and a dream of animal lovers to see the shelter get a new building.

That dream came to fruition this past year as the City of Pasco as contributed as much as $2 million dollars to the project.

The main shelter building has been around since the '50s with the newer buildings added in the '70s.

The new infuse of capital means a new shelter will soon be erected behind the current shelter which has made animal advocates very happy.

Tri-Cities Animal Shelter Work Progress Begins

The Tri-Cities Animal shelter serves Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland but Pasco has the responsibility of getting a non-profit group to run the facility over the last 20 years.

Thanks to Julie Webb and her Facebook page  #NothingFancyJustFunctional have been petitioning for the new shelter and thanks to her and many other animal lovers, the new Tri-Cities Animal Shelter will be a reality.
