70-MPH Car Chase Ends With K-9 Chomping 2 Burglary Suspects
Grant County has a K-9 name Chewbacca, or Chewy for short. He lives up to his nickname.
County Sheriff's said Wednesday Chewbacca was responsible for the capture of a pair of would-be burglars early Saturday morning.
Around 3:20AM Deputies responded to an alarm at the Moses Lake United Rentals facility on Frontage Road, and upon arrival, saw two suspects jumping into a car and speeding away. They refused to pull over and led officers on a 70-mph chase on Frontage.
Then the car became stuck when it spun off a county road a few miles away. Chewy tracked for 90 minutes and located 34-year-old Ryan David Lee Hughes of Moses Lake, who was hiding in some bushes. He gave up quickly.
Then 56-year-old Billy Ray Rodgers of Olympia was located about a half a mile away. He tried to run, but Chewy chomped on his arm, dropped him, and held on til officers closed in. Both men are facing at least four different charges, more may be added later.
Again, we learn, don't mess with the K-9...especially one named Chewbacca.
