Last weekend a man was found shot in a car off Road 54 in Pasco, and now all four suspects have been arrested.

Police say the incident started at the Pasco Walmart when two men were leaving and got into an argument with another group. That group of four mistook the men as members of a rival gang. After the confrontation outside the store, the two men tried to drive away in a green civic but the group followed the men south on Rd 68 in their car, according to police reports.

When the men in the green civic turned east onto Court Street, the group of four pulled along side and at-least one person fired at the men with a pistol. The driver was hit in the chest by at least one bullet and the unhurt passenger called 911 for help. The victim survived and is making a recovery at a local hospital.

The group of four sped off leaving one man bleeding from a gunshot wound and multiple bullet holes in his car. Police put out descriptions of the suspects after seeing security video from the Pasco Walmart. Detectives also searched the victims car for clues.

Sunday, security officers from the Pasco Walmart called police to report that some of the suspects had returned to the store. Police found two of the suspects from the video and arrested them on site.

SHOOTING ON SATURDAY, TWO ARRESTS ON SUNDAY: One male is critically injured, and an adult and a teen juvenile are in custody for felony assault charges after a drive-by shooting in Pasco late Saturday night. Police are looking for two more additional suspects.

The incident began at the Pasco Walmart on Saturday shortly before 11 PM, when the two males who would end up being victims were leaving the store. Another group of four was nearby and possibly misidentified the two men as being members of a rival group. As the two men drove off southbound on Road 68, they were tailgated by the group of four in a second vehicle. When the men turned eastbound on Court Street, the occupants of the following car pulled alongside, yelled at them, then one or more of them fired a pistol at the victim car several times, striking the victim driver in the chest with at least one round, in addition to putting several holes in the victim car. The victim driver immediately stopped and the passenger called 911. The suspect car left.

Officers arrived and began emergency first aid, followed quickly by Pasco Fire medics. The victim driver was transported by ambulance in critical condition to an area hospital for further treatment. He is a 20-year-old Pasco male. (Our last update indicated that his condition was improving.) Detectives were called out that night. Follow-up investigation was done at Walmart, including checking their security video. Possible suspects were identified. This follow-up investigation carried on into Sunday and involved alerting other local agencies about the descriptions and possible identities of the suspects.

On Sunday evening at about 6:30 PM, Pasco Police were alerted by Walmart security personnel that some of the same suspects from Saturday night were back inside the store. Officers responded (FCSO helped) and were able to safely contact and detain four people. Investigation determined that there was probable cause to believe two of them were involved in the drive-by shooting, but it did not appear that the other two had been part of that group on Saturday night.

Cesar Alejandro Mendoza, DOB 061098 of Royal City, was booked into Franklin County Jail on investigative holds for Attempted Murder First Degree, Drive-By Shooting, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Criminal Conspiracy. A 16-year-old male from Quincy WA was booked into Juvenile Detention on holds for the same charges. A car associated with the group was impounded from the Walmart lot for a future search warrant. The other two detained individuals were released.

Detectives are still actively seeking to identify and locate the two remaining suspects. Anyone with information about this case is urged to call Dispatch at (509)628-0333 or contact lead investigator Detective Jon Davis at davisj@pasco-wa.gov about case PP18-58609 Assault Agg.
