We had to read this twice to make sure it wasn't a joke...the Obama Administration has actually created a .15 Christmas Tree Tax...wait til you read the details.

The Agriculture Department announced today the implementation of a .15 tax on each fresh Christmas tree sold by vendors who sell more than 500 trees a year.  The reason?  Obama's Administration has created a Christmas Tree Promotion Board...who's purpose will be to-well, we'll let you read from the actual release itself:

"to run a “program of promotion, research, evaluation, and information designed to strengthen the Christmas tree industry’s position in the marketplace; maintain and expend existing markets for Christmas trees; and to carry out programs, plans, and projects designed to provide maximum benefits to the Christmas tree industry” (7 CFR 1214.46(n)).  And the program of “information” is to include efforts to “enhance the image of Christmas trees and the Christmas tree industry in the United States” (7 CFR 1214.10).

Obama's administration cites the 1996 Commodity Promotion, Research and Information Act that apparently legally allows him or other presidents to impose such a tax.  But with the ecomony sputtering,  he wants to essentially tax Christmas trees?   Most vendors do in excess of 500 trees during the holiday,  multiply that by .15 and  thats just another $75 that the vendor either aborbs or passes on to consumers.  While that is not a huge amount, it's the very idea that Obama's people think the Christmas tree needs "promotion,  research, etc".    Just goes to show the progressive, uber meddling approach of these people.   Merry Christmas Scrooge Ag Department.  No local or regional specifics, but this will certainly affect fresh trees sold in our area.
