Renewed Recovery Effort for Missing Swimmer in Grant County’s Banks Lake

The man was last seen after he jumped off a boat south of Electric City in Banks Lake in Grant County.

The Grant County Sheriff's Office says water rescue teams, with help from King and Pierce County Search and Rescue, are combing another portion of Banks Lake in Grant County to try to recover a man who disappeared July 30.

The man, whose name has not been released, was in his mid 30's and jumped into the water without a life jacket.  He disappeared shortly afterward, and has not been seen since.  Several searches, including divers spending 11 hours in and out of the water last week did not turn up any trace of him.

     Efforts Being Concentrated in a Certain Area

Crews are searching in the area north of Steamboat Rock, and are using special sonography and other equipment to scan as much area as they can. The GCSO says if boaters or recreationists see these rescue teams on the water, to please give them plenty of room to work, and avoid the area.

Banks Lake is a large recreation area, it's 27 miles long, and extends from southern Douglas into Grant County.  The maximum depth is 177 feet in places, with an average depth of 46 feet. There's not a lot of currents, but enough water movement to possibly result in a drowning victim to be far away from their last kown location.

The GCSO says an update will be released later with any progress.
