Canadian School Bans Halloween, Permits ‘Orange & Black Day’
Today I learned there's a school district in London, Canada (half way between Detroit and Toronto) that banned Halloween and replaced it with "Orange & Black Day" -- not everyone is pleased with the compromise.
To be fair, it's not really a district policy -- it's up to the principals whether kids can wear costumes on Oct. 31, what kind of costumes, and what kind of festivities teachers allow. But many schools have adopted the "Orange & Black Day" compromise to stay politically correct.
One man running for a school board seat says "Orange & Black Day" is the result of poor policies that leave school officials guessing as to what is OK and what will get them in trouble. The district needs clear policies that focus on teaching and respecting cultural diversity, not confusion.
Sounds good to me!
