Convicted Sex Offender Found Dead in Cell at Umatilla Prison

An investigation has been launched after a 64-year-old inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at the Two Rivers Correctional facility in Umatilla.

Authorities say Benjamin Yzaguirre was found around 9:40pm Saturday night in his cell. Life-saving measures began immediately, but as officials said "to no avail."  He was transported to an area hospital but pronounced dead at 10:55.

Yzaguirre was serving a term for one count each of sodomy and rape out of Marion County. He entered the Two Rivers prison just over two years ago in July 2015.

As per all deaths at the prison, an investigation has begun. Officials did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding his death. Sometimes, details about medical conditions have been released when an inmate has died at Two Rivers, but not in this case.
