Customs and Border Patrol Creates Arizona National Defensive Area
US Customs and Border Patrol has announced they've created what's called a National Defense Area in a heavily-traveled area.
Yuma Arizona is the site of the emphasis zone
CBP says the National Defense Area is located around Yuma, where there's a lot of activity. According to CBP:
"The established zone, which is adjacent to the Roosevelt Reservation along the Barry M. Goldwater Range and the Cabeza Prieta Wildlife Refuge, allows military personnel to temporarily detain people who unlawfully enter the restricted area."
These detainees will be turned over to CBP agents for criminal trespass and other significant charges. Signs have been placed throughout the area to warn would-be smugglers, illegals and others to not cross or enter the area.

According to CBP:
"The National Defense Area in Yuma Sector is similar to those already established in Texas and New Mexico."
They've been particularly effective in deterring illegal crossings.
