Crash Kills Oregon Driver, Vehicle Explodes After Rollover
Oregon State Troopers report a 48-year-old Boardman man died Monday evening in a single vehicle rollover on I-84.
Around 8:40pm, troopers were advised that a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer that was eastbound left the roadway near mile marker 181 in Umatilla County, about 9 miles from Hermiston.
The vehicle rolled several times then exploded in flames. When troopers and emergency responders arrived, they found Moreno Lerna had been ejected from the vehicle and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire completely consumed the SUV, burning it down to bare metal. Speed is believed to have been contributing factor in the crash, and Moreno was not wearing his seatbelt. The highway was closed for more than 3 hours due to the crash.
It is believed Moreno died instantly after being ejected.
