The search continues for a second man believed to be on board a small boat that was found submerged in Chance Lake on Wednesday in Franklin County; a deceased man was on board.

  Franklin County Deputies were called to the smaller lake, which is about 8 miles west of Connell. It's a few miles west of Highway 17, the freshwater lake is popular with some fishermen, it's fed from irrigation runoff from the nearby Scooteney Reservoir.

After arriving, Deputies found the small boat submerged, but didn't say what depth it was at. However, tragically, they found an 80-year-old man on board, who had likely drowned. His identity has not been revealed yet, pending notification of relatives, but officials said he was the owner. He is from Grandview.

Deputies say reportedly he had a 35-year-old friend whom sources said was supposed to be with him, but the Sheriff's office says they have not been able to locate this second man.

Columbia Basin Dive Rescue were the ones who helped retrieve the boat and the elderly man, they are back out today, Thursday, to continue the search for the other person. The investigation continues, the Franklin County Sheriff's Dept. says the names of the persons will be released by the Coroner's office when appropriate.

Officials did not say of the elderly victim was wearing a life vest.
