Drunk Driver Shot by Cops After Accident Spree, Refusal to Surrender
The driver will recover, but he caused a lot of mayhem.
Kennewick Police had the intersection of 10th and Union westbound blocked for a long time Saturday after a shooting finally stopped a rampaging drunk driver.
Officers were called to the area of 10th and Edison around 4:30 AM after getting a report about possible DUI driver who ran the red light.
After locating the vehicle, Officers confirmed the white Jeep Cherokee was involved in several earlier incident involving reckless driving and a hit-and-run.
However the driver refused to pull over and stop despite several attempts. The driver rammed a patrol car at least twice, then struck several other vehicles. Finally, a KPD Officer fired at the suspect driver to force him to stop and keep from causing further damage and possible harm to citizens and Officers.
He was struck by at least one bullet, and then apprehended by SWAT Team members. He was taken to a nearby hospital. The Officer in the first patrol unit struck by the driver was injured and taken to the hospital.
The investigation continues. The name of the 33-year-old male suspect driver was not released.
