A family of six escaped serious injury Monday night after an intoxicated driver hit them near the intersection of North Edison and West Umatilla Streets.

62-year-old Richard Fleming was driving a red truck when he not only hit the van with 6 family members, but also struck a fence at the intersection.

After responding, Kennewick police noticed Fleming appeared to be inebriated. He was believed to be under the influence of alcohol and/or pain medication. TRIOS Southridge ER personnel drew blood samples after officers got a search warrant for probable cause of DUI.

Fleming was charged with DUI. No word on any minor injuries, it is not believed anyone in the van was hurt
