E. Oregon Highways Closed Due to Weather, No ETA on Reopening
As of 10:15 AM Tuesday, April 12, Eastern Oregon highways remain a mess and many of them are closed.
I-84 near LaGrande and Ontario closed
According to the Oregon State Patrol and Oregon Department of Transportation:
" I-84 is closed both eastbound and westbound between Exit 216 (6 miles east of Pendleton) and Exit 265 (east of La Grande)."
I-84 is also closed WESTBOUND between Ontario exit 374 and LaGrande exit 265 due to what OSP says is limit truck parking in Baker City and LaGrande apparently meaning no more room for trucks to park, sit and wait.
ODOT also reports:
"Other highway closures include OR 204, OR 245, and a portion of U.S. 30 between Baker City and Haines. These routes are not viable detours for freeway traffic and are only open for local freight and passenger vehicles."
Oregon officials urge travelers to rely on these trusted information sources, TripCheck.com or call 511 / 800-977-6368.
Don't "blindly" follow GPS or digital navigation systems in foul weather like what's happening in SE Oregon, as those are also affected by weather conditions. We've all had it happen where GPS takes us down a road, only to find a dead-end.
NO WORD on when these roads will re-open.
