The correctional facility just east of Pendleton was locked down Memorial Day evening due to a series of fights between inmates.

The Eastern Oregon Correctional Institute houses over 1,700 men, of which a total of 46 were involved in several fights.

The altercations broke out in the dining room around 5:30pm Monday evening,  then spread to the rest of the prison.   The entire facility was placed on lockdown after the second round of rights that broke out after dinner.

Of the 46 involved in the fights, one required medical treatment.  The prison will remain in lockdown until the investigation is completed as to how the fights began, and who started them.

No other information was released by the prison,  located just East of Pendleton, OR.
