Editorial Standards and Journalism Ethics
Our Mission
870 AM KFLD exists to inform, engage, and entertain communities through meaningful local content. Across our radio stations, digital platforms, and live events, we connect audiences with the stories, music, and experiences that reflect where they live and what they love. We're committed to delivering a dynamic mix of trusted reporting, creative storytelling, and entertainment that captures the unique spirit of every community we serve.
Core Goals:
- To inform audiences with relevant, reliable, and locally focused content.
- To entertain through engaging shows, stories, and experiences.
- To connect communities—on air, online, and in person—through meaningful local engagement.
Ethics Policy
At 870 AM KFLD, we are dedicated to upholding ethical journalism standards and maintaining the trust of our audiences across all platforms and communities we serve.
- Clear Distinction Between News and Opinion
We ensure transparency by clearly differentiating factual reporting from opinion or commentary. We do so by categorizing this content as Opinion in the bottom of the post, or by placing the author's name within the headline. This helps our audiences understand the nature and intent of each piece of content. - No Sensationalism or Misleading Content
While we do not shy away from controversial or provocative topics, we avoid exaggerated or misleading headlines designed purely for clicks. Accuracy and context take precedence over sensationalism. We strive for strong, local content that represents our community and our listeners and delivers value. - Editorial Independence – No Pay-for-Coverage
We do not accept payment, gifts, or other compensation in exchange for favorable editorial coverage. Any sponsored or branded content is clearly labeled to distinguish it from independent journalism.
870 AM KFLD remains dedicated to producing responsible, transparent, and trustworthy content.
Corrections Policy
At 870 AM KFLD, we recognize that accuracy is fundamental to earning and maintaining our audience's trust. While we strive for precision in all our reporting, we acknowledge that errors can occur and are committed to correcting them promptly and transparently.
Minor Edits
Typographical errors and small factual inaccuracies — such as misspellings or incorrect names — will be corrected as needed without a formal correction note. These changes do not alter the overall meaning or context of the content.
Substantial Corrections
For more significant factual errors — such as incorrect dates, misidentified individuals, or misattributed quotes — we will: Update the article to correct the information. Add a clearly labeled correction notice in the article, including the date the change was made.
Retractions/Take Down Requests
We do not remove articles from our websites. If an article contains factual inaccuracies, we will correct them and note that correction for transparency. With news articles related to police charges, we will update the article to reflect the final outcome of the case, but we won't remove the article itself or the factual information related to the initial arrest. If charges were dismissed or expunged, we will update the article to remove identifying information such as a name or the person's image; we require court documentation indicating that charges were dismissed or expunged. If an article reporting on charges related to a nonviolent felony or misdemeanor is more than three years old, an individual may request the removal of their name and image. The article itself will not be removed, however.
Fact Checking Policy:
870 AM KFLD is committed to delivering accurate, well-researched, and responsibly presented content across all of our brands. We believe accuracy and context are essential to respectful, trustworthy storytelling.
We take care not to misrepresent individuals or events. This includes avoiding headlines or excerpts that take quotes out of context or alter the intended meaning. If you find an error in our reporting, please use our Report an Inaccuracy form or contact our staff directly via our Contact Page.
