Errant Drunk Driver Hits Deputy in Leg With Car
Sunday afternoon a Benton County Sheriff's Deputy sustained minor injuries when an errant drunk driver slammed into his legs.
The Deputy was responding to a call about suspicious vehicle near Bowles and Haney Roads near Finley, just east of Highway 397, about 3 miles south of Kennewick.
The vehicle, a black Mustang, was located by the officer, but when he did a traffic stop and confronted the driver after checking his license and registration, the man sped away, hitting the officer in the legs. The car raced towards Kennewick, were KPD terminated pursuit due to traffic safety concerns. But minutes later the Mustang was seen parked in a car port, and 39-year-old Adalberto Gomez, the driver, was arrested.
He's facing Vehicular Assault, Felony Eluding, DUI, Failure to Stop and 1st. Degree Driving on a Suspended License Charges. The car has been impounded per a pending investigation. The Deputy was treated at Trios Southridge ER and released.
