Fatal Kennewick Motorcycle Crash Makes National News (FOX)
The 28-year-old woman accused of being impaired when she collided with a Kennewick cycle rider Tuesday night has made national news, because she is also a well-known Instagram fitness model and fitness coach.
Kate Summers, who's being held on $500,000 bail, underwent a transformation that was chronicled online. She once weighed 215 pounds, but through diet and exercise got down to 98. She has over 150,000 followers on Instagram.
The mother of two admitted to police she had also smoked marijuana prior to getting in her truck and being involved in the accident that killed 31-year-old Lionel Birrueta at the intersection of Edison and Clearwater. She is also believed to have been impaired with alcohol.
Fox News ran a national story on the accident. She admitted to officers she had consumed alcohol and smoked pot, and reports say officers could smell the 'burned' marijuana on her after she was arrested. She got out of her truck, said witnesses, but did not call 911 or stay at the scene. She was later found in the nearby Albertson's parking lot. Sources now say he was riding a moped, and not a motorcycle.
She is facing vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run charges. No official word yet on impairment charges, likely pending the outcome of toxicology tests. Her Instagram page is said to have already been taken down. A check of the social media shows evidence of the page, but no access.
