Fire Destroys Large Shop Building in East Kennewick Wednesday
In the early morning hours of Wednesday, February 22nd, units from Benton County Fire District 1 responded to a large building fire in East Kennewick.
Exact location of the shop was not given
Crews responded around 5:12 AM, slick road conditions made the response more difficult, as did a lack of hydrants in the area.
Upon arrival crews found a large 50 by 60 foot shop fully engulfed in flames, and the blaze also threatened a nearby home. Due to the lack of fire hydrants, water had to be trucked in with three large tenders, in addition to the water already carried on the responding trucks.
Units from Kennewick, Richland, Pasco, Walla Walla District 5 and Benton County Fire District 4 also assisted in putting out the fire.
According to BCFD 1 PIO Jenna Kochenauer the cause has not yet been determined, investigators will have to wait until interior conditions have cooled down enough to allow them to examine the remains of the structure. No one was reported hurt in the fire.
