Tuesday was a sad day for football players and fans alike as they mourned the death of former quarterback Ryan Mallet. Even as fans go on with discovering NFL odds, it is indeed a sad time to be a football fan.

According to reports, the former QB apparently drowned off a Panhandle Florida beach. A county Sheriff's office reported at least 11 deaths along the Gulf Coast in the last two weeks.

The area between Fort Morgan, Alabama, and Panama City Beach, Florida, where the former NFL player presumably drowned, has seen a rise in rip current-related deaths this month. Authorities have been warning beachgoers of dangerous water conditions. However, they have not linked Mallet's death to the waves.

According to CNN, reports had reached first responders to get to a beach in Destin at around 1412hrs. The report was that people in the water were having a hard time getting to the shore. Ryan had gone underwater and was having difficulties in breathing when he was pulled out by lifeguards. According to the sheriff's office, the former NFL players succumbed in the hospital. Mallet was only 35.

Mallet's career in the NFL

Mallet was among the top QB recruits in 2007 and had originally settled for playing for the University of Michigan. However, after only one year, Mallet transferred to Arkansas, where he was brutally fierce in the Arkansas Razorbacks. He had two great years as a quarterback for the team before being drafted by the New England Patriots in 2011.

Mallet was in the NFL for six years, having played for the New England Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, and Houston Texans. Despite him not hitting great success in the NFL as he had in college, he had quite an amazing season in 2015 when he played for the Ravens.

In his career, Mallet played in 21 games, went 3-5 as a starter, and had a total of 1835 passing yards. Mallet was announced as the assistant coach for Mountain Home High School in 2020. In 2022, he was made head coach for White Hall High School.

New England Patriots Mourn Mallet's Death

The General manager of the New England Patriots, Bill Belichick, said on Twitter, "I am extremely saddened by Ryan's tragic passing. My thought and prayers are with his family and the many people whose lives he touched." This was after New England Patriots issued a statement on Twitter mourning the tragic accident.

NFL star Tom Brady also mourned his former teammate on social media. He posted a photo of him and Mallet while on the field.
