Some of it was in response to some recent gang activity, the rest was to "send a message," say police.

All Tri-Cities police forces and sheriff departments along with the state Department of Corrections and the two respective jails joined forces for a gang sweep this week.

This crackdown netted five adults and one juvenile arrest.

The adults who were taken into custody were:

Anthony Aguilar, 48
Jimmy Rodriguez, 42
Gregorio Orozco, 41
Travis Harden, 21
Joshua Hieny, 30

Police say -- with one exception -- all of the arrested parties were either known gang members or associates.

Authorities say gang-related activity tends to increase during summer and into fall so they are going to be watching such activity closely.
