Gold Cup Crowds Well Behaved, Say Police – Few Arrests
Despite the near-record crowds attention the HAPO Gold Cup, people were pretty mellow.
Sgt. Ken Lattin of the Kennewick Police Department said Monday a multi-jurisdictional force patrolling Columbia Park made a total of only 11 arrests, six of them stemming from one incident.
Lattin said during the three day weekend, the breakdown of arrests was as follows:
- 2 alcohol arrests
- 1 trespassing arrest
- 1 warrant arrest
- 1 DUI arrest
- 6 arrests in connection with a stolen golf cart.
In that incident, Lattin says six men jumped into an official Gold Cup-Water Follies owned cart and took it for a joyride. As the men were driving through the park, police quickly pulled them over and they were all taken into custody. The incident occurred just after the final championship race Sunday afternoon.
