Gonzaga Going Sweet Sixteen Dancing for the Fifth Straight Year
Gonzaga advances to Anaheim and the Sweet Sixteen on Thursday to play Florida State, the team that knocked them out at this point last year, after dispatching the Baylor Bears 83-71 to reach the round of 16 for the fifth consecutive year.
Maybe the face plant in the WCC Conference final against St. Mary's was the exact wake-up call at the right time for Gonzaga, as the Bulldogs have made it look easy so far in 2019, rarely being challenged in their first two NCAA tournament games.
When the Zags made it to the NCAA title game two years ago, they picked a terrible time to play their worst game of the year losing to the North Carolina Tar Heels. Maybe it's a good luck charm to have had that embarrassing St. Mary's loss at that exact time as a reminder that once the real tournament starts, the team that goes on a six-game winning streak raises the championship hardware and cuts down the nets.
Two down, now to avenge the 2018 loss to Florida State...
